Art from Waste, Rooted in Purpose

This work began as a response to the overwhelming frustration I feel toward everyday packaging waste,

a feeling that’s been simmering since I first saw the devastating impact of marine trash on wildlife years ago.

I didn’t want to create art about waste by going out and buying more materials. That felt completely at odds with the original emotion behind the work.

Instead, I committed to collecting and sorting discarded materials from my own daily life and from what others threw away. It was a long, slow, and sometimes messy process. The end result wasn’t as polished

as I imagined, but the process itself became part of the story, more meaningful than any final aesthetic.

This series became one of the most emotionally resonant pieces I’ve made a raw, imperfect attempt that values intention over form. It was also my first step toward exploring the power of reuse and environmental storytelling through art. If I continue this direction, I’d love to collaborate with organizations to give these discarded materials even more impact and meaning.
