Hi, I’m Tommy Tang.
A designer by day, an artist by soul and sometimes both at once.
I’m a self-taught painter based in the DMV area, weaving together nature, memory, and emotion through oil, acrylic, watercolor, and ink. My work lives somewhere between stillness and movement, tradition and rebellion blending classical technique with personal myth, bold color, and a quiet kind of intensity.
Since 2023, my paintings have been exhibited throughout the DMV region, but my creative journey started long before that, with charcoal sketches, childhood curiosity, and a need to express what words couldn’t. Today, I’m still chasing that feeling, only now with bigger brushes and deeper stories.
If you’re drawn to art that feels like a memory you’ve never had, you’re in the right place.
Let’s see where the paint leads.

Girl with Sapphire earrings
22x28x1.5
This piece was born from my fascination with timeless beauty and delicate strength. Inspired by Girl with a Pearl Earring by Vermeer and the refined grace of the Victorian era, I imagined a figure suspended between two worlds, one rooted in history and one whispered from imagination.
Her braided hair symbolizes quiet resilience, while the sapphire earring stands as a modern twist, a jewel of mystery and deep emotion. I wanted her to feel both fragile and powerful, captured in a private moment of introspection.
As I painted, I layered soft tones across her skin to create a sense of vulnerability, contrasted with rich shadows that speak to the unseen stories she carries. The process felt like a conversation between light, memory, and the enduring spirit of elegance.
